A MAC Tartan Tale Vain & Glorious Lip Bag

Half of MAC's Tartan Tale Collection was released last week in Singapore, which is a little too early for christmas shopping in my opinion. By the time I reached the shops, there were plenty of everything, which either meant that the collection had no hype or ladies were broke from the recent Venomous Villains purchases.

I was drawn to the pouches with the Scottish checkered print and I couldn't stop thinking about it for two days in a row. There are 2 sets of lip bags, one in pink and the other in orange/brown. I picked the pink lip bag called Vain & Glorious Lip Bag at Isetan for $70, which is fairly expensive considering that a lipstick and dazzleglass only costs $66. MAC charged me an additional $4 for a lip pencil. :(

I'm not sure whether I'm happy with the 'value' that I got from this set, but I'm really happy with the quality of the pouch.

Pretty box!
Inside, you get 3 lip products;
- Mellow Mood Lustre Lipstick (a warm based rosey pink with gold microshimmer)
- Baby Sparks Dazzleglass (pink gloss with violet shimmers)
- In Synch Lip Liner (a light pink)

The highlight of the purchase has got to be the pouch. This year, the pouches are made of high quality, with a combination of canvas and patent leather fabrics compared to the previous nylon fabric that did nothing to protect your brushes from liquid spills.  Previous MAC bags reminded me too much of Chinese made goods. Not that all Chinese made goods are bad quality, but you can tell that MAC did not order quality fringe products from their 3rd party suppliers.

This lip pouch has square dimensions, measuring 5 x 5 inches, and has a golden zipper that glides smoothly. I tried fitting about 20 different lipsticks and 1 MAC dazzleglass last night and it all fits nice and snug. On top sits a Golden MAC emblem that is quite university-ish looking that adds to the touch of Scottish flare.

The products are labelled with a golden print, from the stickers MAC tube etc.

Although the lipstick looks dark on tube, it looks lighter when swatched on the lips and hands.

I have really dry flakey lips, and so I used the Lush Bubble Gum lipscrub to remove the dead skin cells. But please excuse the bits of lipscrub that refuse to come off my chin (unless I licked them off or washed my face again leaving me with no choice but to look like a grotty kid). Yes, the Lush Bubble Gum Lipscrub is quite yummy and sweet in fact! So believe me, it's not my breakfast sitting on my chin. :P

Bare Lips
I was honestly quite impressed with the MAC lip pencil. It applied on smoothly and has a matte finish. I will probably be purchasing a full size red lip liner from MAC in the near future to aid in my perfect rouge lip. :)

Lined my lips with In Synch Lip Pencil

Coloured in the whole lip with In Synch Lip Pencil
Typically, I never use lip pencil to color in my lip. But it helps to lighten up darker natural lip colors and intensify the color of the lipstick. I believe Mellow Mood when applied directly on bare lips will have a darker color to the picture below, naturally, as it is a lustre finish.

Applied MAC Mellow Mood lipstick on top
Baby Sparks Dazzleglass tends to feel quite gloopy on the lips when you've already layered 2 coats of lip products. Basically, it feels like wall paint on your lips.

Adding Baby Sparks Dazzleglass
So I toned it down by blotting my lips with a clean Kleenex tissue. And yes, my lips now look much better with the soft violet microshimmers from MAC Baby Sparks Dazzleglass on top of a warm pink sheer lipstick.

On my eyes, I am using a combination of 3 products...

On my cheeks, I am using MAC Hang Loose Mineralize Blush (my new LOVE!)

Will you be getting anything from the MAC Holiday Collection?

A Malayan Workaholiday - Kota Kinabalu

Here are some quick pictures of the place I went to this week... Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Not alot of sightseeing this time round. Great for outdoor activities, like island hopping and mountain climbing. A 2.5 hour flight from Singapore and plenty of resorts available.

The Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Foundation

This foundation review was requested by a reader named Tracy :)
I hope you find this useful.

Guerlain's Lingerie De Peau foundation (or otherwise known as the Invisible Skin Fusion Foundation) is the latest high-end foundation hype, having received positive reviews by plenty of beauty bloggers. So today I'm going to share my likes and dislikes of this foundation.

First up, this bottle is extraordinarily heavy. The weight of the bottle makes the product feel luxurious. It's probably not so practical for the frequent traveler.

The cap secures the pump nicely to avoid any spillage.

I was matched to the color Beige Clair 02 at the counter. Surprisingly, the color looked alot darker when swatched on my hand but seems to blend in well with my face. I'm not 100% sure if this is the right shade for me and I will need to test it out a few more times to notice a difference. Color selection is somewhat limited, and I find that Guerlain foundations have a little bit more of a pink undertone.

So lets begin...

Fresh faced, after moisturizer
I'm using an IPSA primer with a pink base for radiance. I received this as a GWP with the rewards scheme at Tangs.

After primer
The Guerlain foundation has a fluid consistency that spreads easily like water. There is no cream or lotion-like feel and dries very quickly into a satiny finish. It truly feels like there is no product sitting on the surface of my skin and feels smooth to the touch. It's almost like bare skin. But there tends to be a bit of settling with the product, so shaking the bottle prior to use is probably recommended.

Although not obvious, you can see that the color is not a perfect match for me.

One pump is more than enough to apply the whole face, and I used a MAC stippling brush to blend the foundation out.

As you can see, it has completely evened out my complexion, removing any signs of sallow and red undertones that was previously there. It seems to give me a nice glow without looking too dewy.

I was never lucky enough to have perfect skin and my old acne scars makes my face have enlarged pores up close. I noticed that the formulation dries very quickly and leaves patches of foundation on areas where the brush has difficulty reaching (i.e. my nose). I never get this issue with tinted moisturizers considering how light they are. And, any corrective blending after drying seems to be somewhat difficult. So splotchy face it is.

Overall, it doesn't look cakey or steaky like alot of other foundations. I believe the application may be alot easier with the fingers...

As a summary, Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Foundation is a lovely. I wouldn't say it's the best foundation I found, but it's much better than alot of foundations I have tried previously. It's excellent in terms of texture and finish, but the blendability and color selection is somewhat average. Packaging is exquisite, however something lighter in weight will suit me better.

All the base makeup used to create today's look.

I hope you found this review useful. :)

Collective Chanel, Guerlain, Lancome Haul

Last month, I completely bypassed the whole MAC Venomous Villains fad. I feel that MAC has released too many collections and with the consecutive 'sold out' stickers on the first day alone just plain annoys me. So I'm boycotting MAC for now. It's probably a good decision because I end up buying Chanel & Guerlain instead! But I really love what I got, and I'm pretty sure that I will use these products to its entirety. Call me a snob, but I find that Chanel & Guerlain is universally flattering on ANYONE.

So let me show you what I purchased the last month...

From left to right: Guerlain Lingerie de Peau, Lancome Cils Booser, Chanel Stylo Yeux in Cassis and Black Shimmer, Guerlain Blush 4 Eclats in Soleil Couchant 02, Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder in 25 Peche Clair

I really wanted to try the highly raved Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation that was released in Singapore a few weeks back. The texture of the foundation is amazingly silky.

For your information, I am an MAC NC25. A kind reader has asked me to do a review on Guerlain foundations and I will posting something up soon. :)

The Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder was a bit of a random purchase, but I was impressed with the finely milled, silky texture that I just couldn't resist! I will probably use this alot more when I relocate to my new country. BTW, more news on that front. Haha! It doesn't help that I'm moving countries and buying new makeup. *thuds head* I'm a hopeless makeup junkie.

Reading the Beauty Look Book, I was so tempted to get these 2 Chanel Stylo Yeux eyeliners. They stay on the lid for hours on end, and that is exactly what I need for long work days. I've already started using Black Shimmer, which is a gorgeous black with subtle shimmer that is not obvious on the lashline. Cassis is a dark plum color, which will replace my brown eyeliners.

Lancome makeup has been a total miss for me for the last few years. The only items I really enjoyed using were the Hypnose mascara. However, I'm curious to try the Lancome Cils Booster mascara base and how it compares to my experiences with the Shiseido Mascara Base (which is my holy grail at the moment). More reviews to come.

I've been wanting this Guerlain Blush 4 Eclats in #2 for the longest time, after having great experiences with my other Guerlain light pink blush in #4. The quality of the powder is mind blowing, and it blends in so beautifully on the skin. You don't end up having patchy cheeks, which I often the case with highly pigmented MAC blushes. The last thing I need when traveling is blending my cheeks for a full minute when time is the essence.

Finally, my dear mum bought me some Beauty Diary Masks from her trip to Taiwan. I believe each box is priced SGD18.90 at Guardian pharmacies, but in Taiwan they are only at NT100 or so (SGD5 each box).

So look forward to more reviews on these products coming up soon. Sorry for the scanty number of posts this month. I've just started my hectic travel schedule with Beijing and Johor Bahru last week, and  continuing onto Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia) today. Fun.

Hope you're all having a great week!
