Light Coverage with Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

I tried Laura Mercier's famous tinted moisturiser today. I was after a light coverage foundation but found nothing suitable in the shops. I settled with LM after seeing it on Ebay.

SPF 20 Tinted Moisturizer in the nude shade (equiv to MAC NC25)

Comes in a 40mL tube

A small amount is adequate for people with great skin.

Spreads easily

Leaves a thin veil of foundation that helps to even out any discoloration and uneveness.

It doesn't settle into my pores

But my skin probably requires a little bit of concealer to hide any acne scars since the coverage is very light.

I used my Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer to hide any marks and pigmentation from my old acne

I love this loose powder - it gives a great finishing touch by neutralizing the yellowness/paleness you get from your foundation. I'm not a fan of the sieve though. It's a pain in the butt to try to get the powder to come out of those tiny holes.

Base makeup finished...

I love my Lunasol Start of Night Eyeshadow palette. Love the mauvey and brown color combination. It's truly amazing!

Used Paul & Joe Duo Mascara with 1 comb and brush to coat each individual lash.

I went to the Kose Sales today which was so cool. I met lovely Cozycotters and makeup junkies like me.  Sometimes it gets so boring hanging out with office people who only talk about work work work. After a while, I don't even want to listen to gossip. It gets tiring, demotivating and doesn't serve anyone any benefit in morale. Talking about makeup on the other hand seems to lift my troubles away.

I will try to post more posts after mid-July, cos I have a big exam looming and I need to prepare thoroughly for it. So I apologise for MIA for a while but I promise I will be back in full action when things settle down. :)

Lush Reviews Part 1

If you remember, I hauled from the LUSH UK site some weeks back. I'm doing some quick reviews now while I'm waiting for my Hsuan Wen Hua Hair mask to adequately soak into my dry processed hair. First of all, I am in LOVE with LUSH H'Suan Wen Hua. Initially I was disgusted with the scent. It really stinks but I'm loving it now. It's sort of an acquired LUSH scent, if you get what I mean.

First of all, don't make the same mistake of putting this hair mask on wet hair. It's meant to be on dry hair and it's more effective. BUT, you'll go through super quick. I've used it 3 times already. I'm already half way through this jar, unbelievable. It's expensive too.

It's totally amazing because your hair will feel lightweight and SUPER soft. It doesn't have any silicones so with it doesn't feel that soft when your hair is wet. But after blowdrying, you'll see the effects of this totally amazing hair mask. The effects last for a few days too!

Make sure you keep it in the cool or refrigerator, as it's got a pretty short expiry.
Next, Rockstar soap... This stuff is so fragrant I can even smell it from my bathroom. It seems to go faster than my Honey I washed the kids. Probably because it's softer in texture. No it doesn't create pink bubbles but the scent totally eases any tension or stress. Taking Lush showers makes you feel like a little kid again. I'm loving it and will probably purchase more of it when I run out.

Honey I washed the kids soap is one of my most favorite scented soaps period. I bought one for my colleague when I was in India last week, knowing that she didn't have any access to this godsend soap. She was hesitant to use it at first because she didn't have a soap dish. But she reported back when she reached home after a horrible and long day - she's in LOVE!

Buffy is a hit and miss for me. It's very moisturising with its shea butter but it's super greasy as well. After rubbing it on my 'cellulitey' areas, I rinse it off in the shower, which leaves my floor super slippery.
It melts really easily too which isn't great in the tropics. I rather keep to using my Body Shop Olive Scrub for super soft smooth skin.

Angels on Bare Skin is a bit of a hippy skincare cleanser to me. I've never used solid face cleansers before, yet alone one that is filled with beans which leaves my sink in a little bit of a mess. It's strange to use at first because you need to take a small chunk, mix it with some water (just a little), knead it till it becomes a paste then smother it all over your face for cleansing and exfoliation.

I've used it for 2 weeks in a row now. It hasn't broken me out. It seems to give my skin some radiance too. But unfortunately, it only has an expiry of 3 months. Well, I'm halfway through my cleanser (yes, I wash my face quite often when I'm traveling in India due to the pollution). But I must tell you, I got the shock of my life when I visited the LUSH India store. They were displaying the Angels on Bare Skin with no container and there were flies flying in and out. I was so grossed out I had to tell the shop assistant to do something about it because it's disturbing that they're unhygienic about products that you put on your face! I'm certainly glad that I got it directly from the UK store.

That's part 1 of my LUSH reviews. Part 2 will come when I get more use out of the other products.
I hope you found my reviews useful!

Quick Product Reviews - Shu Uemura UV Underbase, Givenchy Prisme Libre, MAC Hipness Blush

Why oh why am I so tempted to buy new base makeup when I already have so much on hand?! Its not like I really need another foundation, or primer, or concealer for that matter.

Anyway, I'm trying to use up my base makeup items slowly and steadily... and avoiding buying new base make up entirely unless it's absolutely necessary. So digging through my backup stash, I discovered my loved and ignored primer - Shu Uemura UV Under Base...

First thing is that the Shu Uemura UV Underbase is a mousse. From the dispenser, you get a nice decent amount of lightweight mousse that feels very cooling due to its high water properties. It might not be as 'silicony' as other primers but it really does help to minimize the pores on your face. I used one of the those pentagon squares to soak up the mousse before dabbing it on my face. It's great as a base for pressed powder application, but probably doesn't make your makeup last that much longer (IMO) than a traditional silicone-based primer. Having an SPF of 17 is probably negligible in this type of Asian sun, but something is better than nothing right?

So here I am with the Shu Uemura UV Underbase. It looks like this has helped to even out my complexion. It's hard to describe, someting like a fix+ but with a bit of colour if you get what I mean...

Get prepared for some serious fugly portraits... hehehe! Sorry, morning and base makeup shots just aren't my forte.
Now comes the really cool stuff! I can't get over my Givenchy Loose Powder. It comes in 4 different shades but blends into a matte finish that evens out your complexion and somewhat brightens your skin. Instead of looking stark white, this powder gives me a more natural glow. Not to mention, the packaging with the polka dots is ultra cute and so retro! I love it!

You can get different variations of colours with the versions that Givenchy releases. I found this the most suitable, being non-shimmery.

Ready for the fugly portraits?

Yup, here we go...
So the left side I have the powder on... and as you can see it really does help to illuminate my skin without casting that white powdery look. I used a big powder brush to apply the powder on my face instead of the small puff that comes with the container.

Both sides... (lol! Excuse my expression - obviously very tired and hating my dry lips)

I've been really into my MAC hipness blush that I got from my haul 2 weeks back. I love this colour and would highly recommend it if you missed out on Marine Life. AND, the starfish will always stay on unlike the poor golden overspray seahorse (pity!) on the Marine Life High-Light.

You can pack on more if you wish. Can you see it on my cheeks? A little, yes. I like that you can control the colour on your cheeks and even if you put on too much, blending it with a kabuki helps to soften the harsh look!

All the stuff I used today...

Today marks the first day of the Massimo Dutti Sale in Singapore. Even though it's 'up to 30% off' which is hardly anything, it's nice to get a few clothing pieces from their line. I love the quality from Massimo Dutti, even more than Zara which offers some amazing fashion pieces. Yes, it's a bit classic and boring sometimes, but it's simple items that will last you forever in your wardrobe.

I'm really looking forward to the Zara sale here in Singapore. I wish I didn't have to travel next week because I'll definitely take annual leave just to attend this sale. hehe! Yes! It's even more important than makeup, imo. Style and fashion is so important to giving off first impressions at work and on your weekends when you meet people. Don't stinge if you see an outfit you LOVE, because you'll end up wearing it so often that it's totally worth it! :)

Korres Wild Rose Foundation Review and Other Ramblings

Sadly my NARS Sheer Glow Foundation made a big mess in my makeup bag when traveling to India and Jakarta last week. I was only left with just a little bit of product left. I was really enjoying the foundation so it's sad to see alot of it go to waste. I would highly recommend you get the pump if you are intending of travelling because the cap of the NARS Sheer Glow is horrendous.
Since you already know that I'm a makeup junkie, I have a backup of the Korres Wild-Rose Foundation, after plenty of good reviews online. The Korres Face Primer is fantastic so I would think the foundation is equally good too.

Thankfully the cap is tighter and not as clumsy. It comes in a glass container, which is not as portable for travel, so I'll probably reserve it for home use. It has a shakey bead inside the container to mix the product evenly.

It has a runny texture just like the NARS Sheer Glow and dries to a non-sparkly finish. I would say this is a medium coverage foundation, cos I didn't need to put any concealer at all this morning.

As you can see it doesn't have too much of a cakey look, even the sides of my nose is void of any foundation build up. I like that it doesn't settle into my pores either, and this is largely attributed to the effects of the Shu Uemura UV Underbase, which helps to make your pores look smaller. A review of this will be coming up shortly...

I'm sorry for the lack of posts lately - I've been traveling constantly for the past few weeks. Even when I'm back in Singapore, I'm working long hours to catch up with my paperwork. It's an absolute torture! But I did get a small break and went back to Jakarta to attend my best friend's wedding.

The wedding was conducted in a traditional Javanese style, with ladies wearing Kebayas (a Javanese costume with a tight corset as seen below!). The bride wears a beautiful tiara which weighs 5kg! And attached you have a long string of fragrant flowers that act as a natural perfume. She's naturally gorgeous as it is, and pulls off strong colours very tastefully.

I curled my hair by the way... which only set me back Rp 50,000 which is equivalent to SGD9. Awesome huh? Gotta love Indo hairdressers! They're so cheap and make you feel and look beautiful!

Here's Emily - my best friend's dog. She's a Pomeranian, but they shaved her fur off... in fact, she didn't even know she had a tail before that, and she kept on chasing her tail for 15 minutes with her new found discovery! Isn't she cute? This is her cute puppy dog eyes when she wants food from you.

Anyway, I hope you're having a good week. I will be traveling again next week (*sigh*) so I won't be posting as much. I promise to post more when my crazy schedule dies down a little next month.

MAC to the Beach Collection Haul from Duty Free :)

I'm a happy camper.

I finally got my hands on the MAC to the Beach Collection. I must have been the first customer in Singapore to purchase all these products. I got this from the Duty Free shops at 9pm... just 3 hrs before the official launch on the 4th June.

I'm guilty of being one of those crazy haulers that only get things because it's limited edition and pretty packaging. I've been looking forward to this collection for months and months. You can imagine, I've been reading/watching and anticipating this collection. I was even prepared to purchase it just 1-2 weeks earlier in the US. And yes, I was prepared to spend more money on shipping. Crazy, I know. But I held back cos Marine Life was sold out just 1 hr after it was released online. It wasn't even officially published on maccosmetics.com and it was sold out. It's ridiculous.

Marine Life is the highlight of the collection... probably the reason why they call it 'High Light' powder when it's not a highlighter at all. Yes, I know the seahorse is just an overspray... Yes, I know it's so pigmented that it'll give me florescent cheeks.

I will check in into makeup rehab, just excuse me while I cheat myself this one time into believing that Marine Life is all the hype at the moment.

The orange and green packaging is in my opinion, GORGEOUS!

I wanted alot more from this collection when I saw the promo pictures. But after seeing it in person, my shopping list condensed to 7 items. Not bad, considering my original list has probably 15 items.

I skipped on the cream bronzers, eye pencils, lip pencils, Get Away Bronze blush, body oil, lustre drops, and the rest... u get my drift. I was just overwhelmed with the size of this collection.

I chanced upon this picture, and the color of the liner reminds me of the 'Float on By' eye khol... So I think I might get it to create a similar look.

So I managed to get 2 lippies; Lazy Day (lustre) and Thrills (frost). Both colours are very pretty and easy to wear for any looks. Also got the bronzer in Golden... which is a permanent. I've used Golden before and I find that it's more suitable for fair asian skin.

Both lipglosses in Splashing (intense pigmented opaque pink) and Flurry of Fun (transparent with teal reflects). In my opinion, Flurry of Fun is a must-have from this collection. You can pair this with Thrills lipstick and it gives a nice color combo.

Hipness blush... I didn't get this from the Fafi collection. It's quite similar to the Marine Life highlighter, probably less pigmented. I'm really into coral cheeks lately.

In all it's glory

I bought some other stuff from DFS, cos if you spend $450, you get a $50 dollar voucher. At 10-15% off retail price, it's worth getting a few of your skincare backups. So I'll show them to you in a separate post.

What did you get from this collection?
