I finally succumbed to the MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection

Before you shake your head and go 'tsk tsk', let me explain how I eventually gave into this whole mega huge collection. I'm definitely not a big color person and I would never imagine in my wildest dreams on wearing pink eyeshadow. Nobody would take me seriously at work, that's for sure! But I was so pleasantly surprised at how wearable these colors are.
I'm really starting to hate MAC for bringing out so many collections so frequently. I have already forgotten about the Color Craft MSFs that I bought not too long ago. Yes, I'm really getting irritated at MAC. And next week I hear that they're going to bring out D-Squared and Style Black. I'm going to resist this collection that's for sure. Well, except for the highly raved Volcanic Ash Exfoliator.

I must be strong

So on with the MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection...

These technakhols are absolutely beautiful. They're creamy and resistant to water. Obviously orange is my favorite of them all! Oh, do you like my carpet? :)

Then of course I had to get pigments... The only one I missed out was Heritage Rouge. I'm not too psyched about that one. God knows how much I'll use of Brash and Bold. I just thought it'll be nice to try something different.

Up close, the Brash and Bold is screaming hot!

The eyeshadows in crest the wave, off the page and maira's mood are supremely wearable... I absolutely love maira's mood.

This blush in the Perfect Cheek is truly 'perfect' in my opinion. Sometimes I get sick of pink, peach and all the rest. This blush just seems to go really well with whatever eyeshadow colors you're wearing.  The picture is not showing it's true color, it definitely looks pinkier than this. Oh, and it's matte too, which makes it even more 'perfect'!

What did you get from this collection?

Korres Cinnamon & Natural Clay Mask

I've been on a bit of a mask-binge lately. I'm also on a diet after all that food in Copenhagen. My body needs a serious detox, and so does my skin. Today, I'm doing a review of the Korres Cinnamon & Natural Clay Mask.

This product is designed for oily ladies with 'imperfections'. What a nice way to say blemishes, pimples, clogged pores and all that! It comprises of white and pink argils (?), natural clay with oil absorbing properties, an active ingredient derived from cinnamon, zinc to regulate sebum, sage and willowherb as an antimicrobial agent. Additionally, they claim that the ingrediants remove a temperature maintaining sebum layer. I'm not exactly sure how this helps in oily skin conditions and I can't seem to find any evidence supporting this claim.

Mind you, it's a tiny tube with only 60ml (2.03 fl oz). It practically looks like, feels like, and half the size of your regular Colgate toothpaste. Not exactly good value for money for the small quantity you're getting.

Thank god it doesn't smell or spread like toothpaste. It has a nice scent, not exactly cinnamon but maybe a spicy-ish fruity smell. It's not very thick in texture and spreads very easily.

The instructions tell you to apply a thin layer of this on clean dry skin for 10 minutes. After application, it feels quite cooling unlike my Origins Out of Trouble Mask which heats up on contact with your skin. After rinsing, I noticed a marginal improvement of my skin. Yes, the oiliness is gone and the additional plus point would be that it's not too drying like other clay masks. However, that said it's only an ok for me. Good but not HG status.

My Ratings

What masks have you tried worth buying?

Back from Copenhagen and super jet-lagged

I am back from Copenhagen! I've been on a business trip for the last 5 days and just touched down today. Sorry, I haven't been able to upload any pictures the last few days. But I must say I really loved this city and it has its own Scandinavian sophisticated flare.

This is the view from my hotel room. I shared a room with my colleague at the First Hotel. It's very designer-ish and super mega expensive too!

Here is the famous little Mermaid, which surprisingly looks really small. She will be visiting Beijing for 6 months and the Danish citizens will probably miss her while she's gone. The word going around is that she's being exhibited overseas so that the Danish politicians get free travel to China.

This city is pretty much surrounded by water. All the houses lined along the bank reminds me of Venice. Except this city ain't sinking.

This is a church with a staircase winding around it. Very unique.

More river banks...

Did you know Carlsberg is from Denmark? Although I didn't drink a single drop of Carlsberg when I was there. Probably because it's so global, and is available almost at every bar in Asia.

Now for the food! Shrimp and avocado sandwich. YUMM!

Scrumptious caesar salad...

Veal. Are you drooling yet?

Danish dishes are mostly fish.

Here's a popular Danish fish here... They're all pretty healthy bunch too.

Followed by a 'chocolate symphony'. I had probably a few orgasms over and over! lol!

My colleague had an apple pie with ice cream.

And the sorbet is to die for!

Here's a funny street performer doing a one-man band. He's got all his moves coordinated,

Shopping in Copenhagen is uber expensive. They have extra taxes on top of the usual 25% VAT for luxury goods. Although, the Danish do earn relatively higher wages so the main shopping lane was super busy. Nice shops, mostly dominated by H&M, Zara and the lovely Magasin and Illum department store where I can't afford a single thing! I totally ignored cosmetic shopping, it was just too expensive.

However, I did end up getting 3 scarves! :)

I was expecting to get ALOT more GOSH cosmetics. You're probably really disappointed at me with this pathetic 'haul'. I did notice that it wasn't cheap either, being priced at 78DKK each for the 'dazzledusts', which is equivalent to SGD25. So yeah, I only bought 2.

The nailpolish is super quick drying and consistent. I like! Color is in 543 Pink Rose.

Colours in Sunstone and Kiss. They're generally sheer colours but very pretty!

It's been a really nice trip to Copenhagen. I wouldn't mind going back again, especially to make a side trip to Berlin and Prague. I didn't do it this time because I don't like traveling alone around Eastern Europe.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday! I'm so sad I have to get back to work tomorrow with a horrendous jet-lag.

Packing my suitcase to Copenhagen

I'm all packed and ready to go to Copenhagen. It's going to be a really long flight; 15 hours I believe? I will be struggling to keep up with the different timezones when I start my meetings on Monday. I'll be there for 5 days and I'm planning to get my hands on GOSH cosmetics, which originates from Denmark.

It's always really hard to think about what to pack on my travels. I want to bring along everything but that's unrealistic! I try to squeeze everything into one single makeup bag so I won't go overboard. My usual staples comes with me, including my IPSA poreless loose powder and YSL concealer.

I bring with my a small handy pouch for my meetings/work. This fits pretty much my powder, blotting sheets, kabuki brush and a lipgloss. I love this pouch alot!

I'm really excited to see what Copenhagen is all about. I heard that it's a boring Danish town, but who knows. I will surely take pictures and show you when I get back next week. Till then, hope you all have a great week! :)

A belated Cherry Culture haul

I've been on a NYX and drugstore spree lately... I still haven't forgotten my other stuff but I wanted to experiment with more fun colours without breaking the bank.

Yeah... 2 boxes, long story. I bought a few things and then they had a 20% sale the next day. :(
So I couldn't resist and I placed another order

This is the first box... sorry, I have no idea where the picture of my 2nd box is. Here's my entire loot! Lots of fun eyeshadow colours to play around with!

So yeah, I hope to show you a few of my looks in the next few days.

NYX 10 Color Eyeshadow Pallet - Jazz Night

Today I'm doing a review of the NYX 10 Color Eyeshadow Pallet in Jazz Night. Other mentioned palettes on lots of beauty blogs and Youtube are the smokey eye and champagne and caviar pallet. I decided to get this palette from Cherry Culture as it features lots of dark smokey looks using purples and blues...

The palette packaging is sleek and compact, having a number of light to dark color tones to suit your fancy. The mirror that comes with it is handy too.

The swatches for the top 5 shades are shown here. All the colours are relatively matte, with the only plum colour being more shimmery. The shadows have great pigmentation except the yellow which is slightly chalky. Texture wise, I would only give it a 3 out of 5 stars since some of it feels quite gritty.

And here are swatches for the bottom 5 shades. The only chunky glittery shade would be the silver. For 10 colours, I would definately give this palette a 5 out of 5 stars for value and versatility. For the price, you can't expect it to be the same quality as Stila or Shu Uemura eyeshadows. But at least this palette is alot better than many of the Dior quints I've seen so far. Doesn't these 5 colours remind you of the Dior Petal shine?

I decided to go for a blue smokey eye look today...

I used the NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencil in Pacific, then the mentioned colours from the NYX Jazz night pallet.

The look is still incomplete, so I topped it up with my Givenchy eyeliner

And some Ardel fake lashes in 110...

The complete look in 10 minutes!

My gear...

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Pacific
NYX 10 Color Eyeshadow Pallet in Jazz Night
Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing
Givenchy Parad Eyes Liner
Stila Kajal eyeliner pencil in onyx and pearl
Shu Uemura Hard Formula brow pencil
Shu Uemura glue
Ardel lashes 110
MAC vanilla pigment
Milani Blush in luminous
and NYX Indian pink on the lips

My ratings for the NYX palette in Jazz Night would be:
Quality: 3/5
Versatility: 5/5
Value: 4/5
Packaging: 4/5
Overall: 4/5

Do you like the other NYX palettes?
