NARS Modern Love Palette

Today I will be showing you the new exclusive NARS eyeshadow palette in Modern Love. This is a newly released palette from Nordstrom. In fact, they're a bit late in the release as Europe already had it June. Nonetheless, it's a beautiful palette and I can feel that it's going to be my HG palette. If you already have the 9947, the colours are much more intense and smokey. This is a notch down and more 'la naturale'.

The concept of this palette is to bring together the most popular and favourite eyeshadow shades.
Not alot of people are fond of the rubbery packaging but for me I don't mind it. My impression of NARS is that its professional makeup artist line and don't usually give into the whole aesthetics of packaging. I have had too many palettes where I buy into the whole craze of the packaging and the product quality is mediocre.
I can see myself working up a natural eye using the top 3 shadows or a soft smokey eye using the bottom. The names of each shade can be found on the picture below.

Another close up...

All the top shades are opalescent and the textures are incredibly soft. It's crazily pigmented. I only had to swatch this once without any eyeshadow primer and the shadow really stands out. Even the Bobbi Brown nude eye palette can't compare.

India Song to the far right is a gorgeous taupey brown.

I'm in love with the middle shade Habanera, which they sell in the duo. But sometimes if you've noticed, NARS eyeshadow duos aren't all consistent. One side of the eyeshadow is excellent but the other is 'meh'. Well, this shade is definately the better one of the duo. To the right, the charcoal black is very very pigmented. Much more than carbon eyeshadow from MAC.

You can buy this online from Nordstroms for $55.

Or wait for the brand new Sephora @ Ion on the 21st July! :)

Isetan 10% Sales + bobbi brown nude palette

Ladies, Isetan is having a 10% sale for cardmembers today and tomorrow. Isetan never has direct discounts so it certainly stirred some excitement in me! When I got there I was surprised that it was generally quiet. WTH? Normally, Isetan sales can be really busy. I guess 10% just ain't good enough?

MAC also has a 10% off. Hey, that's pretty good in my opinion. If I didn't haul my color craft, I would certainly pick up some items.

I didn't end up getting anything though. I swatched the new Bobbi Brown nude palette which looks really gorgeous. Promotion details can be found on Beaute Runway as well.

Swatches under bright light and orangey light... Snapping this using my iphone with no macro function. BUT, i do like the shimmer compared to my NARS 9944 palette.

Sorry, I didn't ask the price. SA was rude. *sigh* But now I have a big time lemming for this.

NARS 9944 Palette Swatches + FOTD

I have an obsession over NARS makeup, especially the blushes. My Hong Kong shopping list always has 1-2 must-get NARS items. Occasionally I can't bear to wait and I shop online. A few months ago, I got myself the 9944 palette. This palette is basically the typical nudes and really easy to wear shades to go to work or meetings. I've been grabbing this palette two days in a row now and I'll probably use it again tomorrow. I love how versatile and soft the textures are. If I'm not wrong this palette is a limited edition but if you do come across it, do swatch it and you'll be surprised at how lovely the colours are.

Sometimes my lighting doesn't do me any justice. The picture below is a better representation of the colours.

From left to right: Belissima I, All About Eve II, Bali.

I love to use Belissima I around my tear duct to open my eyes. And Bali is my HG crease colour. The texture is incredibly smooth and pigmented. When I first used it, I overdid the colour and had to start all over again. Moderation is key!
From left to right: All About Eve I, Kalahari I, Kalahari II

These colours are typical lid colours. I really love the middle shade (kalahari I) as it has a slightly pink and brown undertone. Really soft and subtle.

Sometimes bare is more. I just want to keep my makeup really minimal these days coz I hate to strike attention for myself amongst my colleagues. This morning it was pissing down rain, making me incredibly sleepy and moody. I was in no mood to go to work at all. Even my lighting is depressing. :(

My eyemakeup I used today...

Been feeling really exhausted and demotivated lately. I honestly believe that everyone has a sphere of influence on mind energy levels. If you're in a good mood, others around you will feel it. But if everyone else is feeling pessimistic and negative, it inevitably affects you too. I sit across a guy who's always frowning and is incredibly critical. I feel the energy suck out of me at all times. I don't even need to talk to him and I feel like a pessimist all day.

I can't let that affect the way I work. So I'm going to do regular yoga to strengthen my mind and body. I hope I can eventually block his negative energy and focus on my own. I've already done a few sessions of hot yoga and I managed to achieve this posture which I've been struggling everytime. It really shows how powerful your mind can be.

IPSA Promotion @ Tangs Orchard

Additionally, IPSA is also having a 10% off the foundation range this month. A good time to stock up on essentials.

FOTD - turquoise Barry M dazzle dusts with a red lip

One of my close friends asked me for dinner tonight. I was in a bit of a rush so I had to slap on the makeup. Thank god, my hair is kind of behaving tonight.
This is the base makeup I used. I'm really loving the Guerlain meteorites that I purchased recently. It gives my matte look a more luminous look without looking overdone. I love how it makes my skin glow from within. I only used a gentle amount of blush using the NARS blush in Sin.
Here's the eye makeup that I used...
As you can see, the mascara and mascara base really lengthens my eyelashes.
And finally a red lip from Shu Uemura. I love that it's not matte and has a glossy finish.

Have a good evening!

Guerlain hauling!

If you're not a follower of cozycot then you're really missing out on some good deals in Singapore. Ever since I came across these forums, I've been hauling right left center like nobody's business. It's almost like money grows on trees. Luckily I know a bunch of awesome 'cotters' that share the knowledge of great sales like today's one.

Lately, Guerlain has been quite active on their promotions. They say it's because of the recession. I just think they need to get rid of their stocks and they're taking this opportunity to convert people during these dire times. Good strategy.

I'm their little lamb for today. 3 days ago, I hauled a shit load of eye makeup. Probably unnecessarily too. But I can't help it if they were all 50% off! Unbelievable right?
Do you like my carpet? :)

First up, my mascara in brown. It's 2 way mascara, one side for volumising and another for lengthening. This thing is massively long. I don't think I can bring it in my gym bag. LOL. It looks like it can be a torch lighter.

These eye shadow singles are very beautiful. Mind you, not all of the singles have good payoff. I felt that the darker shade can't be duplicated. The colour would be described as a dark charcoal grey with green and brown reflects. I bought another single for my ex-boss back in Melbourne. She's gonna flip out seeing I splurged Guerlain on her but not at that kind of price she's expecting!

My swatch lighting is quite poor... shucks.
This quad sold out real fast. This spring collection is really unique with all fresh pastel-ish colours. Aichaku bought the same quad.

And I bought the turquoise as it resembles really closely as the summer 09 quad which wasn't on sale unfortunately. Its a close dupe and the colours are really nice, nothing that I have.

Now I'm contemplating the next promotion:

Posted by pinkyfemme on Cozycot:

Selling for $180 instead of $260
1. Meteorites perles makeup base
2. powder for the face, it's a 02 pink fresh blush
3. lipstick (620 red shine) but not exactly bright red but very pretty plum red suitable for daily use

No... I don't think so. I think I need to stop spending seriously! Girls, don't tempt me!

Origins 'Out of Trouble'

In Singapore, the humidity and heat has made my skin to problematic. I get oily in within a few minutes! Even with the amount of exercise I do, my skin seems to have a hard time to adjust from dry to humid weather. I suppose it could be a genetic link since both my parents are victims to adult acne.

Today I'll be writing about the Origins 'Out of Trouble', a 10 minute mask to rescue problem skin. This is a highly raved mask on makeupalley, and can either be used as an all over mask or for spot treatments. Today I will be doing the full face. This 100mL tube retails for SGD$42 and can be found in major department stores (Metro, Tangs Vivo, Isetan Scotts to name a few).
The description on the bottle:
"When skin is too slick or when more pressing problems start to pop up, it's Origins to the rescue to keen skin out of trouble. Nature's trouble-shooters including super absorbent zinc oxide and sulfer, calming camphor, plus skin-sloughing salicylic acid, rapidly respond to problem skin's plight with a three part plan-sop up oily-shine, slough off sticky dead cells and sweep away irksome debris. Together they steer skin clear of slipperly situations, refine rough texture and pull the plug on troublemakers to oust potential outbursts."

You layer this over a clean face and wait 10 minutes. So this is what I did today...

As you can see, this is a pretty standard mid-day oil. My skin is pretty clogged and oily after days in India. So I'm really hoping that this mask gives my skin the needed purification.
The texture is like toothpaste, or rather it does feel and smell like toothpaste! But generally, it spreads easily and can be rinsed off much better than my other clay preprations.

After application, I can smell the strong scented camphor. There's a warming sensation which is very interesting.

In about 10 minutes, the mask dries but it doesn't harden like other clay preparations.
While cleansing I notice that my active pimples hurt a little, which it must be slightly irritated with the strong ingredients. After cleansing, I notice that my T-zone is definately clearer. My cheeks are also slightly reddish and my active pimples look pretty angry.

My recommendation is not to use this on the whole face, especially if you have sensitive skin. It's very strong and has some hardcore ingredients like salicylic acid, camphor and zinc. I would only do this technique once a week at most. I will try the overnight spot treatment and hopefully I'll see an improvement.

Ettusais medicated acne T-zone oil block gel

This is my first opportunity to make a review of a product on my blog. Although I haul alot, I don't generally review. So I'm going to go through all my things and make a review for all my products. I'm an active reviewer on makeupalley (username: chia021). If you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to answer your questions.

First up I'm doing a review for the Ettusais medicated acne T-zone oil block gel.

Ettusais is a Japanese brand, providing an array of skincare and cosmetics. Their best selling product would be the loose powder. More information can be found here: http://www.ettusais.sg/

The tube comes in 20 grams and the product comes out a tip point which is generally hygienic. This is formulated as a gel which spreads very easily and soaks into the skin immediately. You apply this on the T-zone oily areas either before your base makeup or even after. The MUA mentions that you can use this as opposed to blotting papers. I find that a bit strange so I would still prefer to blot. The only disadvantage that I can think of is that once your powder is set, placing a gel over your nose will definately move your foundation. However, the main purpose is to reduce the oil secretion. This retails for SGD$37 and can be found at major department stores (Metro, Isetan Orchard, Robinsons Raffles to name a few).

Ingredients are as follows: water, alcohol, zea mays (corn) starch, butylene glycol, silica, zylitol, betaine, camphor, menthol, dipotassium, glycyrrhizate, zanthan gum, pyridoxine hc1, eriobotrya japonica leaf extract, PP-13-decytetradeceth-24, carbormer, aminomethyl propanol, trisodium EDTA, Tocopherol.

There is hardly any scent, which is a plus for me. On application, it gives a cooling feeling (because of the menthol). So I gave it a test go, using it under my Legere BB-cream which normally makes me super oily after 3 hours (this is the only product which has absolutely no oil control whatsoever). After 3 hours, I'm pretty happy that it's only developed a slight (but unnoticeable) amount of shine. Picture below still looks pretty matte, so I'm happy. I will definately update this when I've used this for a sufficient amount of time during my normal 8-hour office days.

I got a haircut to rid myself of the curly birds nest that I've developed in the last few months! Will see how this hairstyle goes for another 1-2 months.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Metro haulage

Yesterday was the first day of the Metro 20% cardmember sales. So i decided to get some things since I had some vouchers from the last sale. This is the best sale of all the department stores in Singapore. Since it's a 20% voucher rebate form for most of the major brands, you can still get a direct discount for some selected perfumes, Clarins and Givenchy. The sale continues till this Sunday and I believe it's open to the public. I signed up as Metro card member the last time by purchasing SGD$150 instead of the usual SGD$500.

The sales can be quite crazy so I usually reserve my items the day before. The pleasure of shopping with no other shoppers makes the experience alot more enjoyable. The MUA at Shiseido can be quite bitchy so I generally want to keep my interactions there short and sweet.

All in all, I bought this loot for $39! Well, that's because I had a voucher rebate.

(from left to right) Juicy Couture 50mL EDP ($110), Origins Out of Trouble ($42), Ettusais Medicated acne T-zone ($37), Shiseido Pureness anti-shine refreshing lotion ($41), Shiseido Pureness Mattifying Moisturiser ($50), Shiseido the makeup Hydro-powder eye shadow in H6 and H10 ($39).

Shiseido's main makeup up line has never grabbed my attention that much. Apart from the mascara base which has a huge cult following, I was never keen on their makeup. But ever since I started using Maquillage, I have found that the quality was excellent and texture beautiful. So I decided to take the plunge to grab 2 hydro-powder eye shadows as the swatches were beautiful with plenty of gentle shimmers.

Ever since I've returned from Dehli, I felt that my skin needed a heavy-duty mattifier but at the same time, a water quenching treat. I was seriously dehydrated and my acne has gotten worse! I was fed up of feeling like a greasy oil slick by 4 hours. After reading a few reviews on makeupalley, I felt that I could invest in some skincare products by Shiseido. I got myself the mattifying moisturiser and the "heavy-duty" toner.

Yes, I've been on the kick to really ramp up my skincare line. I get really lazy with my skincare and I use the minimal amount of products. But I find that my t-zone is way too oily so I need extra help to keep it matte. I have never used Ettusais before and I found their acne line quite interesting. So I chose this tube instead of purchasing the Kanebo Impress Serum that costs a whopping $79.

This is also my first time using Origins. I've always wondered if their products were a little too organic for me. I've used Jurlique products before but didn't find them that effective. From that point on, I've always hesitated to get organic skincare. Although, I heard from makeupalley of the possible miracles that this mask can deliver as a overnight spot treatment. Sure enough, I've decided to give this product a go since my skin was seriously in 'trouble'.

And finally, I bought a Juicy Couture EDP 50mL as a gift.

So that's my haulage yesterday. Just a quick update, I'm wondering if I should change my blog into a website as it's having some problems on blogger.com. Share with me your comments! Ta!
